Frequently Asked Questions

  • I provide individual counseling to adults 18+, and adolescents from 15-17 years. Most of my clients have experienced trauma in their childhoods, and are seeking to address unhelpful patterns and symptoms that may stem from the trauma, including anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, depression, relational challenges, work challenges, and more. I enjoy working with all identities.

  • Our initial sessions will be focused on getting to know you, your strengths, your pain points and your habits right now, learning about your history, and gaining a better understanding of your therapeutic goals and how we’ll approach them. It’s important for me to have the full context of your experiences - both with yourself and with the world around you - in order to give you the best experience possible.

  • The typical session varies week to week and client to client. We’ll set the agenda together to make sure you’re getting what you want out of our sessions. I use a variety of approaches tailored to you, your needs and your goals. Our sessions focus on talking through your concerns, your emotions and experiences, with the aim of helping you gain new perspectives and ways of interacting with yourself and the world around you. We may focus on skills building, such as emotion regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, mindfulness skills, and/or interpersonal skills, or we may engage in parts work and/or EMDR therapy. Consent is extremely important to me, so you will have choice and agency every step of the way.

  • We will meet weekly for the first few months at a minimum. This will allow us enough consistency for you to experience early “wins” that we can continue to build on if we later decide to reduce the frequency of our sessions. Reduction of frequency is also subject to clinical readiness (i.e., to avoid putting your mental health at risk) and also availability of a reduced frequency time slot that works with both our schedules.

  • This is a tough question to answer because it differs by individual. Some clients are able to resolve the concerns that brought them to therapy within several months. I work with many clients who experienced difficult childhoods, including parents with undiagnosed and untreated personality disorders and substance use disorders, and these concerns tend to take longer to resolve. When it comes to skill building, clients typically progress more quickly the more they practice the skills. Regardless, most clients experience significant relief within several months.

  • I see clients both in person and online. My office is in South Austin, near South 1st and Ben White Boulevard. I work with clients all over the Lonestar State.

  • At this time, I do not accept insurance; however, I will provide a detailed invoice of services provided (called a superbill) you can submit for reimbursement with your insurance company. If you plan to do this, I encourage you to first ask the following questions of your insurance company:

    • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

    • Does my plan limit how many counseling sessions I can have per calendar year? If yes, what is the limit?

    • Do I have a deductible? If so, how much is it and have I met it yet?

    • Is there a co-pay per session? If so, how much is it?

    • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

    • Do I need a diagnosis in order for services to be covered?

  • In order to improve accessibility to quality mental health services, I offer a sliding scale fee structure starting at $130 per session, including reserving at least one weekly spot at drastically reduced fees. Please complete the contact form to inquire about what fee levels are available at this time.

Please note, the drastically reduced fees are reserved for formerly incarcerated individuals and family members of people on death row or who have been executed.

  • From January 1st through the week before Thanksgiving week, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation to avoid being charged the full session fee. Your appointment is reserved for you specifically.

From Thanksgiving week through December 31st, I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid being charged the full session fee.

  • I do! Please fill out a contact form and let me know you’d like to schedule a free 20-minute consultation.

  • The first step to working with me is to complete the contact form, and I will reach out to schedule a free consultation. This will help us ensure a) I’m accepting new clients and b) that I will be a good fit for you and your needs.

  • Please use my contact form to get in touch. If it’s not a request for services or something related to client care, please note it could take me some time to get back to you. No matter what, I promise I will try to get back to you as soon as I’m able!
